Bournemouth, England — Twenty-three (23) award recipients were announced today at the Inaugural Dorset Ethnic Minority Awards (DEMA) Dinner Gala and Cultural Showcase. Hailed as the “Dorset’s Biggest Cultural Showcase” by the Press, The DEMA Awards, is the only mainstream Awards honouring excellence and positive contributions to society by ethnic minorities in Dorset.
It was an evening filled with spectacle and showmanship, with Cultural performances including X-factor’s Sounds of Brazil Dancers, who lit up the whole event with a dazzling interactive performance. Other performances included songstress Tanya Miller, Bulgarian Folk Dancers and African Singing sensation Zuwa Re.
The event attended by over 400 Guests, including AFC Bournemouth officers, Bournemouth University , Local business persons, Miss Dorset Steph Wyatt, and his excellency – the Lord Mayor and Mayoress of Bournemouth.
“The 23 winners selected have surpassed the normal call of duty and set the highest standards for innovation, success and commitment to excellence in their given fields,” said Nanzy Sebata, Chief Executive Officer of The Dorset Ethnic Minority Awards. “We are so proud to showcase the 2018 DEMA award recipients and encourage them to continue to strive for excellence and positively impacting our communities.”
The DEMA Jury, which validates and selects The DEMA Award Winners, is comprised of community leaders, academics and industry experts, is led by multi-award winning Lead-Juror Sara Ali Choudhury, and includes CEO of Dorset Race Equality Councils Natalie Sherring, Unity in Vision Chairperson Sayma Ahmed, NHS Equality and Diversity Manager Dave Corbin, Entrepreneurs Ewa Erdmann, Eva Muhumuza, , Elisa Ponce, Tomasz Dyl, Community Leader Erika Bryant, and Academics Jae yon Cho and Nicole Ferdinand.
The inaugural DEMA Awards were sponsored and supported by Adriel Care Ltd, AFC Bournemouth, Bournemouth University, DREC, Touch of Class, Forces Diversity, Sarah Ali Choudhury and the NHS Healthcare Foundations in Dorset.
